A Houston specialty hospital is being sued over claims it severely neglected a patient and allowed ants and gnats to crawl into his larynx, commonly called the voice box, according to a civil lawsuit filed at the Harris County Courthouse.
Keith Simmons and Kirk Simmons filed suit Jan. 12 against Select Specialty Hospital-Houston West on the Katy Freeway, citing medical negligence.
The plaintiffs say their father, Willie Lee Simmons, died after he sought treatment at Select Specialty Hospital-Houston West.
According to the brief, the defendant’s employees severely neglected Simmons and allowed ants and gnats to crawl into his trachea tube and larynx and bedsores to develop on his backside.
The Simmons are seeking actual and exemplary damages, as well as attorney’s fees and court costs. They are being represented in the case by Houston attorney Derek Deyon.
