A Richmond man is dead after a three car accident in Sugar Land on Oct. 20, according to DPS Sgt. Steve Holtz.

Joseph Bolua, 23, of Richmond, died soon after the car accident. Bolua was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Amanda Wiley, 26, of Richmond, who was traveling south on Hwy 99.

According to Holtz, at approximately 5:55 a.m., the vehicle driven by Wiley took a left turn onto Sand Hill, running a stoplight. A Mack truck driven by Jose Contreras, of Richmond, struck the car as he drove through a green light.

Holtz said the truck made an evasive action — avoiding a direct impact — that may have saved more lives.

According to Holtz, alcohol was suspected as a contributing factor in the accident, which is under further investigation.
