Two men died and three others were injured in a traffic crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 45 in Huntsville early Tuesday morning, officials said.
The three-vehicle crash happened about 1 a.m. on northbound Interstate 45, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Killed in the collision were Bernardo Alfaro-Gallegos, 33, of Dallas, and Jorge Rodriguez. Troopers did not know Rodriguez’s age or hometown.
Injured in the wreck were Jeffery Martinez, 21, of Beaumont; James Lea, 27, of Spring; and Bradley Patterson, 47, of Huntsville.
Martinez and Lea were rushed to Conroe Memorial hospital. Both were in critical condition. Patterson was taken to Huntsville Memorial hospital. His condition was not released.
Investigators said Martinez was driving a 2002 Jeep Cherokee southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 45 when the collision occurred.
Alfaro-Gallegos, Rodriguez and Lea were in a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier. Patterson was in a 2000 Ford Focus.
Details were sketchy and troopers did not release information about how and where Martinez entered the northbound freeway or how long he had been traveling the wrong direction on the freeway.
